In addition to performing general pediatric dentistry, Smiles for Kids offers hospital dentistry for young patients. We have the training and tools to handle dental surgery and oral health emergencies in children.
We are sedation dentists certified to provide gas, oral and intravenous sedation to children. Some dental surgery procedures can be performed under sedation and local anesthetic. Others may require general anesthesia, which must be administered in a hospital setting.
The dentist will discuss your child’s individual needs and help you to understand your options. We will never recommend general anesthesia unless it is absolutely necessary, and highly trained pediatric anesthesiologists will handle the anesthesia to ensure maximum safety and effectiveness.
For extreme cases or delicate procedures we may recommend hospital dentistry With hospital dentistry the child would check in to the hospital for an out patient surgery. The child would be put under general anesthesia to complete all of the necessary work by one of our Board Certified Pediatric Specialist. After a short recovery from the anesthesia the child would return home in the same day with specific aftercare instructions provided by your specialist.
Kids lead active lives, and dental emergencies are often a side effect of rowdy play, sports and other activities. If your child has a tooth knocked out or broken, we can work quickly to repair the damage – even replacing the original tooth in some situations. We also handle other emergencies like abscesses and infections.
